Virna Lisi

Virna Lisi, born Virna Pieralisi on November 8, 1936, in Ancona, grew up in a modest but value-rich family. From an early age, she showed innate charm and a passion for acting that led her to attend theater courses. Her beauty and naturalness quickly made her known, and at just 17, she was noticed by producer Antonio Ferrigno who gave her her first film contract.

Post-war Italy was experiencing a cultural rebirth, and Virna, with her disarming smile and grace, embodied the dream of a new Italian femininity.

From the 1950s to the 1970s, Virna Lisi established herself as one of the most versatile and beloved Italian actresses. She appeared in over 70 films, playing roles ranging from melodramas to comedies, thrillers, and auteur cinema. Her career took an international turn when she signed a contract with Paramount Pictures.

Despite her overseas success, Virna remained deeply connected to Italian cinema, often working with prominent directors such as Marco Bellocchio and Liliana Cavani.

In 1960, Virna Lisi married architect Franco Pesci, building a lasting and solid relationship. Their marriage brought a son, Corrado. Despite fame and success, Virna managed to keep a balance between her public and private life.

The Virna Lisi Foundation was established to honor the actress's legacy and promote Italian culture and cinema. Each year the foundation organizes the Virna Lisi Award, an event that celebrates Italian actresses distinguished by skill, passion, and commitment.
